Fairfax High’s Musicians Perform at VMEA Event
For the first time in Fairfax High’s history, the school band’s Wind Ensemble was chosen to perform at the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA) convention. This year’s event was held Friday, Nov. 22, at The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Va.

Animal Shelter’s Black Fur-Day
The Fairfax County Animal Shelter is holding its own version of Black Friday, on Nov. 29, called Black Fur-Day. The shelter will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and fees will be waived that day on adoptions of all black and mostly-black dogs and cats. Black and darker-colored animals take longer to be adopted, so this special promotion is to bring them extra attention.

The Infant Toddler Family Day Care Program of Fairfax helps parents find the best possible childcare provider in the area. It currently serves 360 children, and celebrated its 30th Anniversary on Oct. 13, with a dinner at the Fairfax Marriott.
Michael McCarty Elected to the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration
Michael McCarty, director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Fairfax, has been elected to the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration. He was inducted in October at the Academy’s Annual Meeting during the National Recreation and Park Association Congress in Houston.
