The Celebrate Fairfax! Festival returned to the Fairfax County Government Center grounds for its thirty-seventh year last Friday through Sunday. According to about.com, this year’s Festival saw the participation of over 120 musical performances on eight stages, as well as more than 400 exhibitors, venders and craters in the Community Marketplace.

A Broadway-style, musical adventure is on tap in Encore Theatrical Arts Project’s new show, "The World at Your Feet." It’ll be presented Saturday, June 14, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, June 15, at 3 and 6 p.m., at NOVA’s Ernst Community Cultural Center, 8333 Little River Turnpike in Annandale. Tickets are $22, adults; $18, students and senior citizens, at www.encore-tap.org.
Robinson Receives Six Cappie Nominations

In the realm of high-school theater, the annual Cappie awards are akin to professional theater’s Tony awards. And Robinson Secondary School received six Cappie nominations for its production of the musical comedy, "Curtains." The winners will be announced June 8 at the 15th annual Cappies Gala at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Robinson’s nominations are as follows:

Northern Virginia’s largest community-wide event, the 33rd annual Celebrate Fairfax! Festival, is set to take place June 6-8, 2014 on the grounds of the Fairfax County Government Center at 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax. The Celebrate Fairfax! Festival features 25 acres of amazing concerts, family programs, green living, thrilling carnival rides and nightly fireworks. Among the festival's highlights are the more than 120 concerts and performances on eight stages, with an exceptional line-up of national, regional and local artists. Fairfax High’s Musical: 13 Cappie Nominations
‘9 to 5’ is in the running for Best Musical.
The 2014 Cappie nominations were unveiled last Monday, May 19, and Fairfax High’s production of ‘9 to 5’ received a whopping 13 nods – a school record – including Best Musical.
Singing and Acting Nods for Paul VI
Paul VI High has received two of the top Cappie nominations for its production of “Guys and Dolls.” Jacob Rozmajzl is nominated for Male Vocalist, and his younger sister Abby is up for Lead Actress in a Musical. And Director Katherine Miller is delighted that they’re being recognized.

New ABC Stores Open in Fairfax, Centreville
On Tuesday, May 13, the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) held grand opening events for two new stores that will serve Fairfax and Centreville customers.

Providence Players present Neil Simon's farce, ‘Rumors.’
Women in lovely evening attire and men in snappy tuxedos were walking about the stage of the James Lee Community Center theater. It was an early dress rehearsal for the Providence Players (PPF) production of "Rumors," a farce by award winning playwright Neil Simon. The PPF cast was getting a feel for the set as final touches were being made to a tastefully decorated, contemporary two-story New York City apartment.
Animal Shelter Grand Opening
The Fairfax County Animal Shelter will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house this Saturday, May 17, to celebrate the official completion of the shelter’s renovation and expansion. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. and will include behind-the-scenes tours, face-painting and hands-on interaction with rabbits, guinea pigs and small reptiles. The shelter’s at 4500 West Ox Road and is open Tuesday through Friday, noon to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
