Meet LuLu of Fairfax

Do you ever feel like your dog’s trying to tell you something?

Surprisingly, this little dog doesn't play by the rules.

You might see these clues in body language, hear how a dog barks, or maybe your dog will get an object that represents what it wants, such as a leash.

Not my dog. When LuLu the Cavachon wants food, cuddles, or just attention, she will show it clear as day in her eyes. It’s not so obvious if you don’t see her every day. She appears as a cute, normal dog.

Of course, this does my dog injustice.

To the everyday onlooker, if she’s wagging, come on over! If she tucks her tail, stay away. Surprisingly, the little dog doesn’t go by the rules. Her tail will wag whenever she is close to me. If she’s upset, you can only tell by looking into her bright eyes. When her tail is tucked, it could mean virtually anything. When she’s playing with other dogs, she’ll jump around with her tail tucked. But her eyes say, “Play! Play! Yay!”

We were doing judging the Friday after our last day of a dog training session. But, there were people there just waiting around. At shows there is always a barrier so that the dogs can focus, never so many people just standing by the course. As we were starting, more people came in and started chatting.

LuLu had a hard time sitting down because of barking dogs, and when she did it was crooked. At that moment, LuLu was giving me “What is going on?!?” eyes.

So I wasn’t surprised when she got distracted by two people on the side of the ring. But at the end of the course, LuLu gave me “I’m a good dog” look.
