Drug Take-Back Saturday

In conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and state and local law-enforcement agencies, the City of Fairfax police station will host a drug take-back initiative to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from local homes. It’s set for this Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 3730 Old Lee Hwy. in Fairfax.

There’ll be a collection site where people may turn in their old, expired, unused, or unwanted medications. Prescription medications, controlled or non-controlled substances and over-the-counter drugs may be turned in anonymously at the collection point inside the station.

People may dispose of medication in its original container or not. Residents are advised to remove any identifying information from the prescription label. Liquid products should remain sealed in their original container to prevent leakage.

Intravenous solutions, injectables and syringes will not be accepted, and commercial businesses, pharmacies or other medical facilities may not use this event as a means to discard expired medications or medical waste.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Lamb Center Executive Director John MacPherson. “It’s also the opportunity for us to share the stories of transformation that are taking place at The Lamb Center on a daily basis. Several of our Lamb Center guests will tell their stories and we’ll talk about our vision for the new Lamb Center building.
